Route Description

After a few kilometers, we reach an old railway line; the rails have already been removed. The surface is coarse gravel and not the best for our adventure touring motorcycle with street tires. We pass through tunnels and come to old railway bridges spanning gorges.

Road Conditions:

The track is almost 40 km long and is consistently very moderate and easy to ride. The inclines and declines are very gentle, and the track is at least 1.5–2 car lanes wide. The difficulty level is a maximum of SG 2, with only a few occasional washouts (approx. 10 cm deep). For the most part, it's a hard-packed track. Clearance heights shouldn't be a problem. Only at the beginning is there a tree that has grown diagonally across the track. Here, branches hang down into the road at a height of about 2.60 m. You could push them aside; a clearance of up to 3 m might be possible (photo). Large vehicles like trucks join the route near the town of Penza, at waypoint BA12_03. The track is wide and suitable for such vehicles (max. 7.5 t).

Scenery:
For the most part, we drive along the edge of the Sierra Nevada and enjoy magnificent panoramas, especially during the winter months. The "miradors" (viewpoints) are real eye-catchers. The track climbs to an altitude of 1500 m and also leads through a section of forest. You will frequently encounter hikers.
